The 2024 HSBC Spanish Film Festival presented by Palace will be coming to Palace Cinemas in Melbourne from 14 June - 10 July. The festival will feature the best cinema from Spain and Latin America.

Pick #1 El Maestro que prometió el mar (The Teacher who Promised the Sea)
Starring Enric Auquer and Laia Costa, this acclaimed drama tells the true story of Antoni Benaiges, a teacher who brought progressive teaching methods to a small village in 1930s Burgos. Sure to be a hit with fans of José Luis Cuerda's 1999 classic La lengua de las mariposas (Butterfly's Tongue).
Pick #2 Un Amor (One Love)
A striking drama from prolific director Isabel Coixet, starring Laia Costa and Hovik Keuchkerian as two new neighbours in a small village deep in rural Spain who become entangled in a web of passion. Based on Sara Mesa's acclaimed 2020 novel of the same name.
Pick #3 Segundo Premio (Saturn Return)
Winner of Best Spanish Film at the 2024 Málaga Film Festival, this beautiful, disruptive drama is a story of music and passion, with a hypnotic soundtrack. The film was inspired by the iconic Spanish indie rock band Los Planteas, and the recording of their legendary album Una semana en el motor de un autobús in 1998.
Pick #4 El Viento que arrasa (A Ravaging wind)
A quietly powerful coming-of-age drama that explores a young woman's path to change her fate, A Ravaging Wind is a gem from acclaimed Argentinian writer/director Paula Hernandez, based on the award-winning 2016 novel of the same name by Argentinian writer Selva Almada.

In the year 2147, a conservation biologist battles the extinction of humanity with the help of an A.I. system but is disturbed when a mysterious traveller arrives in this striking science fiction feature from the Dominican Republic.
