1. Mexico: Playa del Carmen and spicy margaritas

An iconic beach near Cancún on the Mayan Riviera, Mexico’s Playa del Carmen was once a sleepy fishing village - though has now turned into one of the country’s top tourist destinations. Apart from powdery white sand and turquoise water, Playa del Carmen is close to the stunning Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the second largest in the world!), as well as an abundance of ancient Mayan ruins.

Try this spicy twist to the classic margarita, the perfect combo for the hot sun and night-long parties around Playa del Carmen! 

  • 1 lime wedge; 2 jalapeno coins, seeds removed; 2 ounces blanco tequila; ½ ounce orange liqueur; 1 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed; ½ ounce agave syrup; salt rim; jalapeno coin.

2. Cuba: Varadero and strawberry mojitos

Cuba’s most popular resort destination, and consistently claiming spots one or two for the position of best beach in the world, Varadero is a Caribbean paradise. Once reserved for the Cuban elite and US tourists, since the Cuban revolution Varadero’s picture-perfect beaches have been open to Cubans and foreigners alike, accompanied by beautiful tropical vegetation and untouched caves for exploration.

  • 10 cups chilled lemonade; 500g fresh or frozen strawberries; ¼ cup; caster sugar; ½ cup white rum; ½ cup triple sec liqueur; ¼ cup lime juice; strawberries, lime slices, and ice cubes to serve

3. Colombia: The beaches of Tayrona National Park and the Aguardiente Sour

Situated along Colombia’s verdant Caribbean coast, Tayrona National Park is a popular tourist destination that sees stunning jungle terrain mix with the warm, calm waters of the Caribbean. Hiking, wildlife-watching and other activities abound, though for beach bums the best options are the beautiful Cabo San Juan, Cañaveral, Playa Cristal, and Arrecifes.

A Colombian favourite, using one of the country's national drinks, Aguardiente - fit right in with the locals enjoying the sights and sounds of Tayrona National Park!

  • ¾ cup Colombian Aguardiente; ¼ cup lime juice; ½ cup orange juice; 1 tablespoon sugar; 1 egg white lightly mixed

4. Uruguay: Punta del Este beaches and the Clerico

A resort city constantly abuzz with visitors, Punta del Este in Uruguay has something for everyone. Its proximity to urban services means that busy nightlife and world-class dining are never far away, and wales make regular stops along Punta del Este’s coastline. As for beaches, the two top choices are undoubtedly Playa Mansa (for a calm, relaxing experience) and Playa Brava (for those looking for big waves and the perfect surfing conditions).

A unique drink synonymous with Uruguay and other Southern Cone countries, this is the perfect refreshment for a vacation to Punta del Este.

  • 2 bottles dry white wine; 1/4 cup brandy; 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice; ¼ cup sugar; 1.5 cups sliced peaches; 1 cup sliced strawberries; 1 cup halved grapes; sliced banana; ice

5. Spain: Playa de la Concha and blackberry vodka sangrias

Spectacular Playa de la Concha is considered one of Europe’s best beaches and is nestled next to the town of San Sebastián. Named for the beach’s perfect shell-like shape, Playa de la Concha comes with some of the clearest water and finest sand in Spain, as well as interesting islands to explore and the historic sites of San Sebastián itself.

An interesting take on the Spanish classic, enjoy this Sangria with the punch of some vodka!

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries; 1 cup water; 3 tablespoons sugar; 1 bottle sweet red wine; ½ cup blackberry vodka; orange slices, lime slices and blackberries to serve.
